International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
Since 1950, Society for Science & the Public has provided a stage for the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the world's premier STEM competition. Each year, millions of the best and brightest students from around the globe compete in science fairs and vie for the 1,800 spots and $5 million in prizes at the ISEF. The upcoming ISEF will take place from May 8 - 13, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information, please visit the ISEF homepage.
The Mu Alpha Theta Award is given to the most challenging, thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving mathematics accessible to high school students. Components of the investigation often include mathematical proof, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, visualization, simulation, and approximation. Drs. Terry Herdman and Tom Tosch judged submissions on behalf of Mu Alpha Theta at the 2019 ISEF. From left to right: Dr. Tom Tosch (Judge); Alexander Zhang, Second Award of $1,000; Siddarth Ijju, Second Award of $1,000; Anne DeForge, First Award of $1,500; AnaMaria Perez, First Award of $1,500; and Rinni Bhansali, Second Award of $1,000.

The Core Competition Experience:MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge
MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge is an Internet-based applied math competition for high school juniors and seniors known for inspiring them to pursue STEM majors and careers. Working in teams of three to five, participants solve an open-ended, math-modeling problem focused on a realistic issue – in 14 hours. Extra credit awards are available to teams that employ technical computing/code in their solutions. The contest, organized by Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and sponsored by leading software developer MathWorks, is free and open to all U.S. students and will award top teams this year with $100,000 in scholarships toward the pursuit of higher education. M3 Challenge has given more than $1.75 million in scholarships to date and has been listed as an approved contest by the National Association of Secondary School Principals since 2010. Challenge weekend (Friday through Monday) dates are March 3 through March 6th, 2023. Registration is open here through Friday, February 24, 2023 Complete details, rules, and practice problems, as well as other resources to help students learn math modeling, technical computing, and how to prepare for the Challenge can be found here. If you would like more information about the Challenge or posters to distribute to your organizations or colleagues, please send a request with due date and shipping address to m3challenge@siam.org.>
ARML Power Contest
The American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) offers a two-test Power Contest to be worked on by a team at the students' high school. The Power Contest provides a group problem solving situation similar to the power question found at the annual ARML competition. For questions or additional information, please visit the ARML Power Contest homepage.
