February 3 - Kalin and Herron - Winners posted April 1

March 3 - Rubin, Andree, GLSA - Winners posted May 1

March 17 - Regional Sponsor of the Year - Winners posted May 1

June 16 - Huneke and Scholastica - Winners announced at the MAO National Convention

 

Kalin Award link

This award was established in 1981 by a grant from Dr. Robert Kalin of Florida State University, a former president of Mu Alpha Theta. Dr. Kalin was a nationally recognized mathematics educator and was one of Mu Alpha Theta’s strongest supporters. A Kalin Award nominee must be representative of all student members who excel in mathematics and provide notable service to Mu Alpha Theta.

Huneke Award link

Mu Alpha Theta established this award in 1986 in honor of Harold Huneke, a former Secretary/Treasurer of National Mu Alpha Theta. Each year the Huneke Award honors a current or retired sponsor who has labored tirelessly and made significant contributions to Mu Alpha Theta.

Sister Scholastica Award link

The Sister Scholastica Most Committed Sponsor Award was created in 1994 at the suggestion of the student delegates at the National Convention, who wanted to create another award to honor outstanding sponsors of Mu Alpha Theta chapters. The award is named after Sister Scholastica, who was a dedicated sponsor from 1972 and a fixture at the National Conventions, until her retirement.

Regional Sponsor of the Year Award link

Mu Alpha Theta established this award in 2015 to honor outstanding sponsors of Mu Alpha Theta chapters which may not have attended our national convention. Each year the Regional Sponsor of the Year Award honors a current sponsor from each region who has labored tirelessly and made significant contributions to Mu Alpha Theta.

Diane Rubin Service Award link

The Rubin Award was established in 2004 by the Governing Council of Mu Alpha Theta. The award was named in honor of Diane Rubin who worked tirelessly at the National Office of Mu Alpha Theta for twenty years, before her retirement in December 2003. The award will be presented to the Mu Alpha Theta chapter that has a history of outstanding mathematics service to its community for at least two years.

Governors' Leadership and Service Award link

This award was established in 2015 by the Governors of Mu Alpha Theta to recognize a graduating member for their outstanding leadership skills and exceptional service to their Mu Alpha Theta chapter.

NEW for 2024-2025: The Lisa C. Herron Community Award link

To further our commitment to community within Mu Alpha Theta, the 2024 Mu Alpha Theta Governing Council is offering one $5,000 student award and one $2,500 chapter award to recognize the work of members and chapters in promoting the inclusion of underrepresented students in their Mu Alpha Theta chapter.

Andree Award link

The Andree Award, created in 1987 in honor of Mu Alpha Theta founders Richard and Josephine Andree, is awarded to deserving students interested in becoming mathematics teachers.
